Brand Identity for Holly Macdonald

This is a custom brand identity for ceramic artist Holly Macdonald’s functional ceramics business. Her practice is deeply connected to form and colour, expressing the nuances and intricacies of lived experience through these mediums. Thus, any rebrand would have to emphasise these qualities.

The distinguishing factors of her work in the functional ceramic space is its quiet playfulness and the visibility of the works hand-pinched surface. I thus came up with a system of graphic elements which reflects these features.

The brand logo is purposefully imperfect and all visual elements are created by hand. Such as hand written type and paper cut out mugs and bowls imitating Holly’s ceramic forms. This allowed me to translate her artistic identity into a visual system, highlighting whimsicallity and texture.
